Poplar Fence and Gatehouse Construction to Affect Carpool Starting Wednesday Afternoon
Dear PDS Community,
We are pleased to announce that with the final permitting approvals obtained and the building materials secured, the Poplar Fence and Gatehouse project is set to begin construction on Wednesday, November 13th.
Please take time to carefully review the new maps for carpool traffic flow.
During the first phase of construction, the West entrance from Poplar Avenue — the traditional entry point during morning carpool — will be closed. All traffic entering from Poplar Avenue will be redirected through the middle parking lot entrance. Drivers will need to make a right turn upon entering the lot to access the carpool traffic lanes. Signage and traffic cones will be in place to help guide you.
* The new traffic flow will be effective starting Wednesday, November 13th during afternoon pickup.
Queuing for Pick-Up
The early arrival queuing area adjacent to Wilson Field will be unavailable during much of the construction. Due to the adjustments and limited space for early arrivals, please do not queue or block the main carpool lanes.
For those arriving early for afternoon dismissal, parking is available in the lot on the south side of Central Avenue, near the Second Presbyterian Athletic Fields. If you are queuing and blocking the pickup lanes, our faculty and staff will kindly ask you to continue driving through the line and circle back to keep traffic flowing.
During morning carpool, our heaviest congestion is from 7:45–8:00AM. If possible, we encourage you to drop off earlier in order to avoid congestion.
Heads-Up Text Messages about Adjustments
If there are any adjustments to the drop off and pick-up plans, as we navigate these new procedures, we will communicate these changes via email and a text message to those who have opted into the News messages.
As we embark on this project, we greatly appreciate your patience and flexibility as we begin this important work. While these improvements will ultimately enhance our campus, we recognize the temporary inconveniences they may cause and thank you for your understanding throughout the construction process.
