Technology
At PDS, technology is seamlessly integrated into the classroom to support and enhance student learning.
With technology, students can choose how they demonstrate and apply their knowledge. As PDS educators, we ask, “Can technology enhance learning somehow?” If it can’t, technology will be used only for its sake. But suppose the learning can take on more relevance and meaning with technology and lead to real-world tasks. In that case, various forms of technology are available now so boys can build a deeper understanding of content. That is seamless integration.
In 2001, we were among the first elementary schools in the nation to launch a 1:1 laptop program. Today, every boy in junior kindergarten through third grade has an assigned classroom device, and in grades fourth through sixth, boys are issued an iPad to take home. Additional iPad carts are available for student use during special area classes, designed with subject-specific apps and add-on features like OSMO PlayStation or Dashbot Robots. iPads are available for younger students but only with support and interaction. During a boy’s years at PDS, he will come to understand what it means to be a godly man, a proactive participant in the digital society, how technology tools can support one’s productivity and learning, and how it supports creativity, thus allowing our voices to be heard globally.
